Aurun and Khamalos

As an empire declines, two old friends who have chosen very different paths in life write to each other. Inspired by the story of Ausonius and St. Paulinus of Nola (4th century CE), as told by Helen Waddell in The Wandering Scholars and Mediaeval Latin Lyrics. One of Paulinus poems is quoted, as is the salutation from one of Ausonius letters. Submitted to the "pen pal" Bitsy jam, October 2020.
