This metaphorically conveys the difficulties of learning about mental health and how to find services, especially when your family or culture stigmatizes it. In contrast, the easy path leads them further into darkness and abandoned possibilities. Although, there may be a bias in choosing the hard, lit path but, some people may also find peace in the darkness, so it depends on the individual and how they choose their own happiness.
