Early in the 21st century mankind broke out of Einsteins cage, with the developments of the Quantum Engine and the Jump Drive humanity gained the power to leap to our nearest star systems. A small asteroid carrying a rare mineral called Neridium smashed into a small town in Oregon. Despite the loss of life it was determined the unique properties of the mineral could lead to vast advances in reaction drives and even open the possibility of an FTL technology.
