This is a beautifully made game that I found slightly hollow, and I've never managed to explain why to anyone's satisfaction, so let me try here.
Everything in it is excellent and nothing in it is surprising. The father-son arc goes exactly where you expect from the first hour. The combat is deep but never asks a question you haven't been trained to answer. The set pieces are staggering and they happen on schedule. It is a triumph of execution over invention, and after a while that started to feel like watching someone do something difficult very well rather than watching someone do something interesting.
I'm aware this is an unpopular position on a game most people call a masterpiece, and I want to be clear it's not a criticism of the craft, which is close to flawless.
A B from me is a compliment to the polish and an honest note about how little of it stayed with me.
